julievilstrup – bloggers delight opret blog ✕ søg på bloggen cover page buy my books here my photographs categories beauty creativity life miscellanious photography schizophrenia silverloves tattoos archive juli 2018 juni 2018 april 2018 februar 2018 januar 2018 december 2017 november 2017 september 2017 august 2017 juli 2017 juni 2017 maj 2017 april 2017 marts 2017 januar 2017 december 2016 november 2016 oktober 2016 september 2016 cover page buy my books here my photographs tirsdag, 4. september 2018 creative space creativity · julie sonne vilstrup in april i moved in with my boyfriend. it was the best thing for us, as we found it very hard to be without each other. even though it was fast (we’d only been together for about 4 months), it was still the right thing for us. the only downside was the fact that i moved from 78 m2 (about 840 square feet) to an apartment of 55 m2 (590 square feet). the place i moved out of was a great apartment. it was my first place after the divorce. it was pretty spacious (for one person), it was open, light and airy and i loved it so much. after a while it really started feeling like home. then i met my boyfriend and things changed quickly. i didn’t mind moving into his place, because it was much cheaper and i didn’t really care where we lived, as long as we were together. so we decided on his place, because, financially, it made more sense. i didn’t really think much of the fact that it was a smaller place. until i started noticing a difference in my mood and my creativity. the place we live in is one of two apartments in a house from the 70s. our apartment is a bit, how shall i put it, oddly build. it is a one bedroom apartment (which in danish terms means a two room apartment, as we count the living room as one additional room), and the bedroom and living room are both long and slim, which makes it hard to utilize the space in a good way. in the bedroom there’s a window which unfortunately doesn’t offer much light as it is facing a direction that cuts off a lot of the wanted light. the living room only has two small windows that, unfortunately, also don’t provide much light. there’s a door which leads out to the patio which does help a little, except for the fact that it makes the part of the living room which faces away from the door seem darker, because the two windows don’t provide the same amount of light. now, my boyfriend and i are both people with a lot of equipment. my boyfriend plays and produces music and therefore has a lot of instruments, gadgets (as he also loves those a lot), speakers and whatnot. i have a lot of jewellery and creative supplies as well as a desk i work from. so we have a lot of stuff. and all this stuff takes up most of the two rooms in the house, which in turn robs us of most of the light that does come through. it also gives the feeling that we’re boxed in. as if the walls are closing in on us. and this is exactly why i’m writing this post. i never truly understood, until i moved into this place, how important it is for the creative mind and the creative spirit to have space and light. if you don’t have that, you are fighting a powerful force that makes it hard to focus and in the end, create. the mind doesn’t flow freely. the absence of light and literal space prevents you from letting the mind wander. this has proven true for both my boyfriend and i. he normally plays his instruments a lot, and he records and produces songs. but since i (and therefore also all of my stuff) moved in, we have both been in a weird place, creatively. i have stopped making jewelry, because i just wasn’t motivated or inspired. mentally, i’ve felt kind of trapped, and i guess my creativity has been taken hostage as a result. it even stopped me from wanting to photograph, despite the fact that i mostly shoot pictures outdoors, where there’s light, space and lots of fresh air. that is how important space is for the mind. the good news, for us, is that we’re moving next month. this time we’re moving into a house of 134 kvm/1442 square feet, with spacious rooms and lots of light. it will be the biggest place i’ve ever lived in, which i’m looking so much forward to! i can’t even begin to describe my relief. i hope the move will mean that the hostages, both mine and my boyfriend’s, will be set free. ♥ see also: divorce – one year later. få besked om nye indlæg ved at følge mig på bloglovin. link findes i menuen ovenfor. share on facebook. share on twitter. share on google+ pin it! write a comment creativity julie sonne vilstrup also see søndag, 15. juli 2018 divorce – one year later. life · julie sonne vilstrup where on earth did the past year go? looking back, moving out of the home i’d shared with my ex-husband for so long, was one of the most difficult things i have ever done. back in 2010 when we got married, i was so happy and had no doubt whatsoever that we were going to grow old together. realizing, 7 years later, that i was wrong was a rude awakening. the eight years i had spent with my ex-husband were amazing. and so is he. i will never have anything but great things to say about him. he truly is a great person with great character and values. and even though i was the one who decided to end the marriage, he went above and beyond during those last days together to make the move as civil and pleasant as possible. the word mature doesn’t even begin to describe him. the day the movers brought my (no longer ‘our’, but ‘my’) stuff to the moving truck and we said our last goodbyes, i was a wreck. was it the right decision? or had i just made the biggest mistake of my life? my ex-husband’s words were running through my mind, over and over again. “i read online that it’s very normal to feel like that when ending a marriage. so you’ll probably feel like that in the beginning. but it’ll get better”. this was just one of many examples of his maturity. i just hoped he was right. so… it’s been a year. was he right? or did i make a mistake? i want to answer that with the highest degree of respect for our relationship. because yes, i can say, without a shadow of a doubt, that it was the right decision for me. i had a few bumps along the way where i felt weak, insecure, lonely and worthless. and i made a few mistake feeling trapped within those feelings. but i eventually moved past that. because i lost myself in my marriage. we both lost ourselves. and i have finally found my way back, not just to myself, but to that love of life i used to have. but having said that, i don’t regret anything. i don’t regret getting married. i will never regret that. i learned a lot through that relationship. about love, life, myself and about sharing a life with someone. i also learned what i think is important in a relationship and what are some important pitfalls to avoid. i think losing yourself in a relationship is something that happens a lot. in a long term relationship it’s easy to go down a wrong path without even noticing it, as it often happens gradually. so realizing that you’ve taken a wrong turn is hard. because it means you have some tough decisions to make. so what is my life like now? as i am writing this, i live in an apartment with my boyfriend (i talked a bit about him in my previous post) and my dog, dixie. i was the one who got dixie in the divorce, as that was our agreement from the very beginning when we got our first dog together. in a hypothetical break-up (that is of course no longer hypothetical), i would get ‘custody’ of the dog. after the divorce i have lost 42 kilos, which is most of what i gained in my marriage and i am finally being more creative and working on things that i love to do, like writing, photography and making jewellery. i have way more energy now than i have had the past nine years, and i’m generally just keeping active with long walks with dixie and exploring this new place where i live. it’s a part of denmark that i’ve never really spent much time in, so it’s nice to get to know new pa
